Allman, Olin and Scarvelis targeting meets all-time collegiate marks in discus, javelin and hammer

Three womens collegiate field event records could be broken Friday and Saturday at the 43rd Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Stanford fifth-year senior Valarie Allman already has the facility record in the discus throw at 212 feet, 3 inches (64.69m), becoming the No. 12 all-time American performer when she competed unattached at last years Cardinal Classic.

Allman, who ranked second in the U.S. and eighth in the world in the discus last year, is scheduled to make her outdoor debut Friday in the hammer throw. She will be pursuing the 2007 meet record of 208-8 (63.60m) by Suzy Powell in the discus competition Saturday.

North Dakota State senior Alyssa Olin elevated to the No. 15 javelin performer in NCAA Division 1 history March 16 with her effort of 191-6 (58.36m) at the Baldy Castillo Invitational.

Olin, who enjoyed a 17-foot improvement from last year in her javelin opener, is aiming Friday for the 2009 meet record of 190-11 (58.20m) set by Oregons Rachel Yurkovich.

Olin could be challenged by Stanford junior Mackenzie Little, who won the meet last year with a 182-5 (55.60m) performance. Little has a personal best of 188-11 (57.60m) from 2014 in Australia.

Tennessee redshirt junior Stamatia Scarvelis improved on the Volunteers hammer record with a 224-4 (68.37m) throw Saturday at the USC Power Five Trailblazer Challenge.

Scarvelis will seek a similar effort Friday when she looks to eclipse the 2012 meet record of 217-2 (66.20m) set by Amanda Bingson of UNLV. Scarvelis is also entered in the discus and shot put.

Cal freshman Camryn Rogers, the World U20 leader at 213-4 (65.02m), is not only chasing the meet record, but also the Golden Bears all-time hammer mark of 214-0 (65.22m) set in 2002 by Jennifer Joyce.

In the girls high school field events, Santa Catalina CA junior Laurel Wong has the potential Saturday to take down the 2013 pole vault record of 13-0.25 (3.96m) set by Greta Wagner of Los Gatos.

Wong had a personal-best 13-3 (4.04m) clearance Feb. 17 to win the California Winter Outdoor Championships at Arcadia High. She also cleared 13-1 (3.99m) on Saturday at the King City Invitational.

A pair of CIF Central Section standouts have the potential Saturday to challenge the discus record 169-10 (51.76m) set last year by Obi Amaechi of San Francisco Lincoln.

Bakersfield Liberty freshman Faith Bender has thrown 160-2 (48.83m) this year and Fowler junior Jocelynn Budwig boasts a season best of 159-10 (48.71m). Budwig produced a mark of 169-10 last year.

Bender is pursuing a pair of class records as well. The California state freshman discus record is 162-11 (49.66m) set in 1991 by Powell when she attended Modesto Downey and the national ninth-grade all-time best is 168-1 (51.24m) produced in 1998 by Briona Reynolds of Red River ND.
