All-Time High School and Professional Performances Earn This Week's Performance of the Week Awards

Track and field fans voiced their choices in this week's DyeStat's Performance of the Week poll, while DyeStat's editors made their own selection.

Readers’ Choice: Brodey Hasty

With 41.59 percent of the vote, Brodey Hasty won our Readers’ Choice vote, beating Katelyn Tuohy with her second-place tally of 15.88 percent.

Hasty, a Brentwood TN senior, chose to continue running unattached this year, a decision that goes back to the 2017 track season. As such, while most high school athletes have reached the end of their seasons, Hasty is just getting started.

In only his second race of the season at the Prefontaine Classic, Hasty competed in the International Mile on what will eventually be his home track when he joins the University of Oregon program next fall. It was not Hasty's best race of his career, running 4:04.53. Last year Hasty ran 4:01.75 and he ran 4:00.05 indoors this year.

However, Hasty's Prefontaine race could be viewed as a learning experience. In his season debut in Atlanta, Hasty ran 4:07. His Prefontaine Classic race was faster and it taught him lessons about running at the elite level. Hasty started in the back of the pack, but in the middle of the race, there was a dramatic surge in the pace and he was unable to keep up. He would finish nearly six seconds behind the next competitor.

His next race came Saturday at the Music City Distance Carnival. Hasty ran the 3,000 meters, a race where he was paced in the early stages of the race by runners including Leo Manzano and Mason Ferlic.

In the latter stages of the race, Hasty ran alone as he attempted to break the high school record. In the end, he came up just short, running 8:00.92. That was behind the 7:59.83 of German Fernandez, which he ran en route in a 3,200-meter race in 2008. But it was ahead of Galen Rupp's 8:03.67 from 2004. It should be noted that Drew Hunter ran 7:59.33 indoors. Hasty now sits second on the prep outdoor all-time list for the 3,000 meters.

Next on Hasty's schedule is Friday's Brooks PR Invitational and Sunday's Portland Track Festival. He is scheduled to race the 800 at the Brooks PR Invitational in Seattle and then race the 1,500 at the Portland Track Festival.

Editors’ Choice: DeAnna Price

This week was a tough choice. There were many fantastic performances, especially at the high school level. Katelyn Tuohy continued her strong sophomore year with US#1 marks in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters. And then there was the high school record by Anna Hall in the heptathlon, which also elevated her to the No. 2 all-time American U20 performer. However, this week the Editors' Choice award goes to DeAnna Price for her American record in the hammer.

Price was already on a strong streak this season. She won the Jamaica Invitational last month with a world-leading 252-2 (76.27m). She bested the previous world-leading mark by one centimeter. Her winning mark was also the second longest throw in American history at the time.

Back in the U.S., Price took part in the Iron Wood Throws Classic Saturday in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. On her second throw of the competition, Price got another big throw. The hammer sailed out to 254-9 (77.65m), breaking Gwen Berry's American record by nearly three feet. The throw also extended her world lead.

Price had another big throw on her final attempt, launching the hammer out to 253-0 (77.11m). It was not an improvement, but it would have also broken Berry's record. Price now has at least six of the top 10 throws in U.S. history. Additionally, Price now ranks fifth on the world all-time list.
