Duplantis Wins Again - Meeting de Montreuil Recap

By Adam Kopet

Armand "Mondo" Duplantis won his second elite pole vault competition on his European tour.

After winning at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting over Sam Kendricks earlier this month, Duplantis this time beat Renaud Lavillenie in a close competition Tuesday at the Meeting de Montreuil in France.

Duplantis won with a clearance of 19-4.75 (5.91m). Lavillenie had a best clearance of 19-2.75 (5.86m). Both athletes took attempts at 19-6.50 (5.96m), but failed all their tries. Had Duplantis cleared, it would have broken his World U-20 record.

In other action, Xie Zheny bettered the Chinese national record in the 100 meters, running 9.97. He beat South Africa's Akani Simbine, who finished second in 10.04.

In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Russia's Sergey Shubenkov, running as a neutral athlete, dipped under 13 seconds to win in a world-leading 12.99.

On the women's side, Ethiopia's Genzebe Dibaba won the 2,000 meters by nearly 10 seconds in 5:27.73. That is the fourth-fastest time ever run, but just off Dibaba's personal-best 5:27.50.

Marie Josee' Ta Lou of the Ivory Coast won the 100 meters in 10.95.
