Brodey Hasty Switches From Oregon To NAUPublished by
Hasty Released From Oregon, Will Run at NAU By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Brodey Hasty has reversed course and will attend Northern Arizona University instead of the University of Oregon. Within the past 10 days, Hasty has obtained release from the Letter of Intent he signed last December and cleared hurdles with the admissions office at NAU. Hasty, who ran a 4:00.05 mile indoors and 8:00.92 for 3,000 meters outdoors, was one of the crown jewels of the 2018 recruiting class. Oregon's distance coaches, Andy and Maurica Powell, left Eugene in mid-June to take jobs at the University of Washington. With the uncertainty of what was to come next, Hasty said he had to take another look at his available options. "I kinda new that I had to do what was in my best interests and that led me to looking at my options again," Hasty said. "In the end, I think regardless of who (Oregon) hired I would have searched my options." Hasty spent his younger years in Utah before his family moved to Tennessee when he was in the eighth grade. His family is moving back to Utah early this month. In joining NAU, the Lumberjacks add a significant piece for the future as they look to build upon back-to-back NCAA Division 1 titles in men's cross country. Hasty will move to Flagstaff for school and pre-season training Aug. 18. "I'm excited to join the guys (at NAU)," he said. "It's a great place for training and I can learn from the older guys."
