Following his decision to turn professional in June, Michael Norman chose to remain training in Los Angeles with USC coaches Caryl Smith Gilbert and Quincy Watts.

Norman, the world indoor 400-meter record holder, confirmed Friday he will also continue to wear Nike during his professional career, signing a multi-year deal to represent the shoe and apparel company. Former USC teammate and training partner Rai Benjamin has also signed with Nike.

“Words can’t express how excited I am to represent such a prestigious brand,” Norman said. “Especially having a former teammate sign with them as well, I think it makes the process of transitioning into a pro more fun. I’m honestly most excited to begin the next chapter of my career as we approach Doha and Tokyo.

Norman wore the brand during his prep career at Vista Murrieta CA, a Nike-sponsored program, as well as during his two years at USC. He also wore Nike on the Team USA kit when he captured gold medals in 2016 for the Americans in the 200 and 4x100 relay at the IAAF World U-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Norman continued to wear his USC kit competing in his only two Diamond League 200-meter races June 30 in Paris and July 5 in Lausanne, before deciding to conclude his season.

Norman, the world outdoor 400 leader this year at 43.61 seconds, is one of seven athletes history to run under 20 seconds in the 200 and 44 seconds in the 400. He clocked a personal-best 19.84 to win in Paris.

The two-time Gatorade National Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Year won NCAA Division 1 titles this year, both indoors and outdoors, in the 400 and 4x400. Norman set collegiate records in all four finals, including a world indoor 400 record 44.52 on March 10 in College Station, Texas.
