Karim Ibrahim Has Been Removed from IAAF Council Following Doping Related InvestigationBy Adam Kopet The IAAF announced Friday that it has removed Karim Ibrahim of Malaysia from the IAAF Council. Michael Pavitt of Inside the Games provides more details on the matter, as the IAAF issued a simple statement with no further clarification. Ibrahim was accused in a March 2016 documentary by German ARD of covering up doping offenses in Malaysia. The documentary alleged Ibrahim was involved in multiple doping cases, covering them up for finding means for athletes not to provide samples, but he was never sanctioned by the national governing body. However, Inside the Games reports Malaysian Athletics Union gave Ibrahim a six-year ban in 2012. That ban was reportedly overturned by the Malaysian High Court in 2013. Ibrahim went onto become the Malaysian Athletics Federation President in 2014. He was then appointed to the IAAF Council by the Asian Athletics Association in 2015. According to the IAAF statement, Ibrahim has taken his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The IAAF plans to make no further comments on Ibrahim's case until CAS rules on the matter.
