High School Regional Rankings Boys XC 2018 - 9/20/18Published by
Boys Regional Rankings - 9/20/18 By Paul Schmitz of DyeStat Eight of the nine preseason No. 1s maintain top spots with strong early season performances. Of the top teams, only Central Valley WA slips out. In-state rival Kamiakin moves to No. 1 with a nice win at the Fort Steilacoom Invitational over quality competition. Both Central Valley and Kamiakin could end up state champions given the teams compete in different classes, with the potential showdown coming at NXR Northwest in Idaho. The Northwest has a familiar name lurking just out of the rankings with 2016 NXN champion Bozeman MT on the brink. The Hawks will get a quality test this weekend at the Bob Firman Invitaitonal. The Southeast stands pat from the preseason ranking with Loudoun Valley VA, Bolles FL and Weddington NC looking especially strong. In the Midwest, Wheaton Warrenville South IL solidified its top preseason rating with a dominant win at the Richard Spring Invitational. New to the Midwest top five is Brighton MI, which upended Ann Arbor Pioneer at the MSU Spartan Invitational. Ann Arbor is going to have to shrink its two-minute 1-5 gap behind low stick Nick Foster in order to return to the rankings. California remains the deepest region in the country with NXN title contenders Great Oak and St. Francis Mountain View leading the way. Preseason darkhorse Newbury Park jumps up two spots to No. 3. Nico Young went from being a potential preseason breakout the real thing with his blistering 14:01 3-mile at the Woodbridge Classic. Also in the mix is a host of great programs that includes Claremont, Loyola, La Costa Canyon, West Ranch and Dana Hills.
