High School Regional Rankings Girls XC 2018 - 10/4/2018Published by
Girls Regional Rankings - 10/4/18 By Adam Kopet of DyeStat The Midwest Region has been in the spotlight for the past week. The top three teams from Illinois met twice in five days. The trio of Yorkville, Naperville (North) and Downers Grove (South) swept the top three spots at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota and took down Wayzata MN, which held the No. 1 spot nationally going into the weekend. The three teams met again Wednesday night at the Napervile Twilight. This time it was Naperville (North) taking home the win against Yorkville. Naperville (North) retains the top spot in the Midwest, but the battle for first in the Midwest is going to be close. Downers Grove (South) finished third at the Naperville Twilight and sits fifth in the region, behind the Ohio duo of Beavercreek and Centerville. One team to keep an eye on is Lee's Summit West MO, which won the McQuaid Invitational in New York. In the South Region, Southlake Carroll TX takes over the top spot in the region based on its Woodbridge Classic performance in California. Prosper TX is a close second behind the Dragons after winning the McNeil Invitational over Southlake Carroll. Marrietta GA is the new leader in the Southeast after winning the Wingfoot Classic. Also new to the top five is Paul Short Run winner Colonial Forge VA. The race to watch this weekend is the Great American Cross Country Festival. In the Northeast Region, North Hunterdon NJ continues to lead the field, but LaSalle Academy RI is in pursuit after finishing second at the Bowdoin XC Classic in New York. North Allegheny PA and Champlain Valley Union VT are also new to the top five this week. Liverpool continues to top the New York rankings. Niskayuna is the newcomer this week, entering the rankings at No. 3 after finishing fourth at the McQuaid Invitational. Shenendehowa Central remains second in the region based on previous performances, despite finishing behind Niskayuna at McQuaid. Wayzata MN finished fourth at the Roy Griak Invitational, but remains as the top-ranked team in the Heartland Region. With nearly all of the top teams competing at Roy Griak, the Heartland Region rankings closely follow the finish order from the meet. Sun Prairie WI enters the rankings at No. 3, ahead of Edina MN and Farmington MN. In the Southwest, Mountain Vista CO continues to lead, but the gap is closing with Lone Peak UT and Desert Hills UT both looking very strong. Desert Hills has recovered from an early season loss to Lone Peak and was second at the Woodbridge Classic. Niwot CO and Cherokee Trail CO round out the top five after strong performances at the Desert Twilight in Arizona. Summit OR remains the top-ranked team in the Northwest after a convincing win at Nike Portland XC. Boise ID is close behind after beating Great Oak CA at the Bob Firman Invitational and winning the Desert Twilight. Bozeman MT and Hellgate MT flip places as Bozeman has performed better the past two weeks. In California, Claremont takes over the top spot after winning the Stanford Invitational. It will likely be a close battle between Claremont and Great Oak all season, but it currently appears that Claremont has the edge. La Costa Canyon overtakes Granada following a similar result at Stanford. The next big race in California is this week's ASICS Clovis Invitational. South
