VA Runner gives coach a wedding present
Williamsburg Va soph Bryce Ruiz broke his own coach's meet record in the Bay Rivers District 5/19 with a 9:25.74 for 3200 meters. Coach Howard Townsend was not at the meet because he was getting married.

Bryce said: "I thought this was the best wedding present I could give coach Townsend. It let him know we were all wishing him the best. It was the most relaxed race I ever ran. I was thinking about coach and that the nervousness I was feeling must be nothing compared to poor coach Townsend's situation."

DQ's are in vogue these days - a logo and a cartwheel
Item 1: In the Frederick County MD championships, Middletown's Tyler Caudle ran the fastest 400 meters in the 20 years of the meet, but she was DQ'd because of a faded Nike logo on spandex shorts worn under her uniform shorts. A parent and coach responded.
Item 2: In the Davenport IA city championships the girls 4x400 anchor runner for Davenport North was so happy at being so far ahead in the stretch that she did a cartwheel with 50 meters to go. We guess the officials thought that was taunting, or something.

DYESTAT ELITE
National Rankings as of 5/12

The rankings database continues to grow daily as more and more athletes achieve DyeStat Elite cutoffs for top-100 national ranking.

The database now includes 6,400 athletes and relay teams, with 3,802 performances from 570 meets. The rankings this week include 2,815 season best marks that meet the cutoff standards, an increase of 558 since a week ago. Some qualifying marks from state meets the weekend of May 6 still need to be entered.

Because of the crush of state meets, the DyeStat Elite update is being held up a few days.
