DyeStat brings you national listings of cross country performances for the 2000 season.  These are not rankings - cross country times are inherently not comparable.  But the fastest runners in the country should be recognized.  DyeStat is compiling the national leaders meeting cutoffs at 3 miles and 5k, with updates at least weekly.

College Choices 2000 Updated
Lists now have 1,532 names as the late signing season ends and the class reports to college.  This update includes Erin Price GA - the 6'2" athlete signed a volleyball scholarship at Alabama, but will also high jump (5-9 PR).

First Class of 2001 choice is Kendra Wecker, of Marysville KS, the US#1 javelin thrower (169-5), who will go to Kansas State.  The 5'11" Wecker will sign a basketball scholarship (she is the No. 1 rated player in Kansas) but will also compete in track. Full story on Rivals' goPowerCat.

Faces in the spotlight

Novi leads in Michigan - Rockford may be more well known because of Dathan Ritzenhein, but the #1 boys cross country team in Michigan is Novi, with their 1-2-3 punch of Chris Toloff, Tim Moore, and Mark Avenius also making them US#4 in The Harrier. (Photos by Matthew Yacoub)

Chris Toloff

Mark Avenius

Greg McCormick
Middletown MD sr
who achieved a rare 7' HJ and 15' PV combination before injuring his spine in a pole vault accident last spring, has been cleared medically for both events.   His HJ goal for his senior season is "well over 7 feet."  Greg is getting plenty of recruiting calls and, despite the N. Carolina t-shirt, is undecided.
