New Saratoga Springs dynasty looms
The Great American combined scoring lists offer food for thought for the HS girls cross country scene.  Not only did  the Saratoga Springs NY girls win either way, the Race of Champions or the combined unofficial tally, but their Junior Varsity team would have have scored well against highly rated varsity teams in Charlotte!  The three freshmen and two sophs on the Saratoga Springs JV team scored a perfect 15 in the JV race with times ranging from 19:17 to 20:32.  Plotting those times against the combined varsity results would give the JV team 47-133-143-148-154 for a total of 625 points (without displacing anyone).  That score is better than Brookwood GA 717, Oak Ridge TN 1022 and SE Raleigh NC 1166.   It is within 100 points of such teams as Esperanza CA 621, Colonie NY 583, Lake Braddock VA 550, and Honeoye Falls Lima NY 545.

THE HARRIER Rankings
Great American had 12 of top 20 teams:
Early meets shake up Marc Bloom's lists, but the 1-2 teams remain the same: The Woodlands TX and Mountain View UT boys and Rockford MI and San Lorenzo Valley CA girls.  The rankings set up an historic Great American Cross Country Festival this Saturday in Charlotte, as 5 of the top 10 boys teams (1-2-3-5-7) and 7 of the top 10 girls teams (2-3-4-5-6-9-10) collided head on in the Race of Champions in Charlotte.  The results foretell a sheakup in the next rankings.  The Harrier rankings

Great American
Cross Country Festival

On a day that started with a flood that caused a 7-hour delay, two runners -- Alan Webb and Alicia Craig -- parted the competitive waters with ease, while the entire 8-race high school schedule was featured by fierce team competition when the flood waters receded and the sun came out.

 DyeStat XC Leader List

DyeStat brings you national listings of cross country performances for the 2000 season.  These are not rankings - cross country times are inherently not comparable.  But the fastest runners in the country should be recognized.  DyeStat is compiling the national leaders meeting cutoffs at 3 miles and 5k, with updates at least weekly.

Running with the Buffaloes - a new book by Chris Lear gives an insider's view of Adam Goucher, Mark Wetmore and the University of Colorado men's cross country program - reviewed by John Dye.
