OH Great Catholic League South - Xavier Cincinnati beats US#11 LaSalle Cincinnati, 23-46, as four of Ohio's top 10 teams meet in a conference championship.   Details

TX Conroe Inv - US#6 The Woodlands boys 22 for easy win; Luis Bordes and Steve Magness 1-2 in same time: 15:37 5k.  Details

PA 45th Wm Tennent Inv - Virginian Bryce Ruiz invades PA and leaves with big 14:57 5k win -- 12 seconds better than PA #1 Karl Dusen and the 2nd fastest time ever on this course (Dan Coval 14:47, 1999).  Details

AR Chile Pepper Festival - Edmonds Memorial OK spots Mountain Home AR the first 3 places (Eric Gross 15:26 5k) and then unleashes 52-second 1-7 pack before Mtn Home's 5th for a 50-52 victory at the University of Arkansas.  Perennial AR champ Rogers was a distant 3rd at 137. Amanda Jordan, Bishop McGuinness OK, captured her third Chile Pepper title in 11:36 2mi.  Complete Results

CA Crystal Springs Inv - Ale Barrientos showed she is returning to last year's form by kicking to an 18:06 victory (hilly  2.95-miles) over front running Gunn soph Ruth Graham.  Barrientos, the leading US miler and 2-miler before suffering a stress fracture last June, led US#6 San Lorenzo Valley to a decisive 28-76 victory over Buchanan.   SLV packed its first five in a 52-second span, adding 5-6-7-9 (Raquel Barrientos, Jenny Lewis, Shiloh Whiting, and Hilary Schwartzbach) to go with Ale's first place.   In the boys race, St. Francis sr Eric Chaves 15:01 won a great 3-way race with Bellarmine sr Neil Davis 15:06 and Logan jr Giliat Ghebray 15:13.

CA Orange County Championships - Fountain Valley jr Julia Allen 17:22 beat Newport Harbor sr Amber Steen by 5 seconds in a duel of nationally ranked runners.

NY's Manhattan Invitational calls itself "the biggest and the best" HS cross country meet and almost proved it Saturday 10/14 at venerable Van Cortlandt Park on Broadway in the Bronx.  On a glorious 

sunny autumn day, the starters sent off a record 9,900 runners from 15 states and 321 schools.  Biggest headlines of the day were earned by US#1 Saratoga Springs NY girls, but shining almost as bright were Danbury CT boys, Julia Pudlin, Austin Smith, and Charles Millieon.

FL St. Petersburg City Championship - Keswick Christian sr Christa Benton,  winner of the small school race at the Great American and a 1999 Foot Locker finalist, lowered her own course record by 32 seconds to win in 17:27 for 3 miles.  

 

College Choices 2000
Lists now have 1,532 names as the late signing season ends and the class reports to college.  This update includes Erin Price GA - the 6'2" athlete signed a volleyball scholarship at Alabama, but will also high jump (5-9 PR).

First Class of 2001 choice is Kendra Wecker, of Marysville KS, the US#1 javelin thrower (169-5), who will go to Kansas State.  The 5'11" Wecker will sign a basketball scholarship (she is the No. 1 rated player in Kansas) but will also compete in track. Full story on Rivals' goPowerCat.
