VA Alan Webb cruises a minute slower than last week but still wins Northern Virginia AAA regional by 10 seconds in 14:56.  Runnerup Matt Maline leads Oakton to team title.  Kelley Otstott 17:38 (verbally committed to Georgetown) leads Jefferson girls to 1-point win over RobinsonStory and results by Pearl Watts

MN Nick Schneider injured, but still running - Minnesota star (2nd in 2-mile and 4th in 1-mile at Foot Locker Outdoors last June) was hobbled with achilles tendon injuries earlier in the season and now he has a stress fracture of the fibula.  He still ran in his MN district meet with a brace (and won!).  Now he is reported planning to run in the MN State Meet Saturday 11/4.  

KY Regionals - Fastest of all are soph Bobby Curtis, St. Xavier 15:02 5k, and jr Elizabeth Campbell, North Hardin 18:45.  Complete Combined Results

PA Julia Pudlin has been breaking course records all season and she did it again 11/2 at the Devon campus of Episcopal Academy in the Girls Inter-Academic League Championships  She toured the hilly 3.1 mile course in 17:51, breaking her previous best time of 18:57, for her fourth straight league title, which she first won in 8th grade. 

WI State Meet - Stevens Point soph Chris Solinsky 15:32 5k beat favored Waukesha West sr Matt Esche by 7 seconds.  US#21 Waukesha West girls 79 led by Serena Ramsey's runnerup finish to Kaukauna sr  Brook Novak 14:11 4k.  Complete Results

CA Seaview League - Newport Harbor sr Amber Steen 17:45 and Woodbridge fr Michael Hadden 15:24 won over the 3-mile Woodbridge Invitational course.

CA Ryan Hall 14:52 3mi in DeAnza League championship 10/31 at Yucaipa HS.   Hall leads Big Bear 29 to title with 7 of top 13 finishers.   A few days earlier (10/27), the 2000 national Foot Locker mile champion signalled he was rounding into shape by winning an all comers 2-mile at Azusa Pacific U. in 8:58.6.  He beat former NAIA indoor mile champion Ricky Etheridge by 5 seconds.  Afterward, Hall told SoCal track writer Rich Gonzales on CalTrack that he was lethargic earlier in the season because of side effects of taking the prescription drug acutane to treat a facial blemish problem.   

IA Iowa City West girls win 3A state meet as Jeni Frudden 10:59 2mi leads a 1-3-5-8-14 effort by the US#6 squad.  Ben Glaser, W. DesMoines Dowling, 15:22 won the boys title, with Chris Jones 15:39 second.  Both Frudden and Glaser were undefeated this year.  Complete Results

CA Buena Vista Inv - McFarland sr Andres Gomez reversed the result in a rerun of his great duel with Taft jr Billy Nelson at Mt SAC.  Gomez 15:44 won this time by 4 seconds with a surge in the last mile, both breaking the record on Taft's home 3.1 mile course.  

OH the story of Northbend Rd - Cincinnati rivals St. Xavier and LaSalle are only 5 miles apart and both are nationally ranked - they will meet again for the third time this year in the OH State Meet 11/4.  Preview

XCtrack.com Poll - Brad Herbster's committee has Mountain View UT boys and Saratoga NY girls number 1, with Rockford girls 3rd behind Campbell County WY.  Details

MO Districts - Adam Perkins 15:37 5k;  Lee's Summit sweeps 4A team titles; Raytown soph Courtney Cockerell 18:40.  Details

FL Bay Conference - Course records by both Rolf Steier 14:53 3mi and Christa Benton 17:13, each winning by more than a minute.   Details

ID State Meet - Best times of the day on slow, sandy surface were by soph Matt Knoff, Highland 16:38 5k and fr Karley Meikle, Hillcrest 19:53.  Meridian, Vallivue, and Preston sweep.  Complete Results

OH Regionals - US#20 St. Xavier Cincinnati 49, US#24 LaSalle Cincinnati 62 in Southwest region.  LaSalle's Allen Bader wins in 15:26 5k.  Details

CO State Meet - Smoky Hill soph Megan Kaltenbach 18:42 5k wins second straight state meet; announces she will run in Foot Locker this year (last year she skipped it for a soccer tournament).  Bret Schoolmeester 15:53 is fastest boy of the day.  Details

Ritz will run with the Buffaloes
The Grand Rapids MI Press reported 10/29 that Rockford MI star Dathan Ritzenhein has verbally committed to attend Colorado over Michigan and Oregon.  With this off his chest, Ritzenhein said now he could just concentrate on "running my best."  So he went out and won his regional meet in 14:18, leading his team to a 19-point score.  The US#1t Rockford girls were nearly perfect with 16 points.  Their big three of Lindsey Blaisdell, Kalin Toedebusch, and Nicki Bohnsack tied for first at 18:00, with Kelsey Toedebusch and Aimee Keenan 4-6.. VA District Roundup - Bryce Ruiz 15:26, 2nd fastest ever at Newport News park (Seneca Lassiter, 15:15). Matt Kealy, Ocean Lakes 15:46 CR. Dustin Sweeney 16:53 CR. Western Albemarle sweep.  Bobby Lockhart 15:14. Jorge Ruiz 15:08

KS State Meet - Shawnee Mission NW boys 42 win 7th straight 6A title; girls 62 win too. Scott Loftin 15:53 5k.  Matt and Megan Noonan win 4A titles. Erin Mortimer wins 6th straight 3A crown for Mortimer family.   Details

IL Sectionals - last step before state meet.  Tony Rakaric 14:46 3.05 mi.  Dan Glaz, Stagg 14:40 3mi edges Adam Roche, York by 3 seconds. York boys 48, girls 43, both win. Paul Jellema 14:55 3mi. Details 

CT Class Championships - Danbury boys win Class LL with 37 points resting No. 1 and No. 2.  Best times of day:  Brian McGovern 15:40 5k, Chelsea Lenge 15:08.  Complete Results 

State Rankings all over the place - Arkansas - New Jersey - Massachusetts - Georgia - New York Girls - New York Boys - Virginia -

PA Districts - West Allegheny's Lauren Shaffer failed to qualify in District 7, the area around Pittsburgh. She had moved up the AAA this year, after winning the AA State Championship in 1999 in a time that was the second fastest in the state. Lauren Bricker wins the D7 title. Mount Lebanon junior Shawn Cavanaugh makes up for two recent losses to Baldwin junior Dan Mazzacco, winning the District 7 title. CB East's Karl Dusen led his team to the District One title wiht a 15:25. Katie Ewart, coached by PA legend Paul Vandergrift, makes it two wins in a row over Wissahickon senior Paige Miller. SD State Meet - Rapid City Stevens sweeps AA team titles behind Erik Gumstrup 16:19 5k and Steph Richardson 15:43 4k in 30 mph winds.  State record holder and 3-time champion Jessica Fox is slowed by a foot injury and settles for 6th.  Eighth grader Patrick Grass 16:57 leads Pine Ridge boys to upset over  #1 ranked Madison, 42-45, in Class A.   Highlights and Detailed Results

the Webbmaster smashes VA record  13.57! - South Lakes VA sr Alan Webb won the Virginia Concorde District championship in 13:57 on the hilly 2.98-mile Burke Lake Park course, 22 seconds under the old record (Sharif Karie 14:19, 1996).  It was only the fourth time under 14:30 in 27 years on this configuration at the busy Burke Lake course.  Pearl Watts' complete report with detailed splits - Also, report on Patriot & National Districts

College Choices 2000
Lists now have 1,532 names as the late signing season ends and the class reports to college.  This update includes Erin Price GA - the 6'2" athlete signed a volleyball scholarship at Alabama, but will also high jump (5-9 PR).

First Class of 2001 choice is Kendra Wecker, of Marysville KS, the US#1 javelin thrower (169-5), who will go to Kansas State.  The 5'11" Wecker will sign a basketball scholarship (she is the No. 1 rated player in Kansas) but will also compete in track. Full story on Rivals' goPowerCat.
