| Mike Heiner - a Virginia hero - shows it's not all about winning. The fifth runner in the Centreville VA family came across a fallen runner 100 yards from the finish in the Virginia State Meet. Giving up his own chances, Mike stopped and picked up the runner and carried him to the finish line, losing 100 positions, but winning the cheers of everyone present and eternal gratitude from the fallen runner, who has a heart ailment. TX State Meet - Rod Koborsi of Jersey Village won the 5A individual championship in 14:58 5k, 22 seconds ahead of Steve Maddox of The Colony. The Woodlands 47 won the 5A boys team title, getting their 5th runner in before Kingwood's second. Class 3A winner Tyler Stanfield 15:44 was the only defending state champion to repeat, leading Canton to its 2nd title in 3 years. This follows their perfect score at the regional. Fastest girl of the meet was Jessa Vacek, Southlake Carroll 11:10, followed by Monique Ortega, El Paso Montwood 11:12. In boys AA race Handley junior Bobby Lockhart wins his third straight state title at 15:24.8. Lockhart's splits were 4:45 for the first mile; 9:47 at two miles and 12:30 at 2.5 miles. PA Catholic League - The St. Hubert's Kelly sisters (Jackie and Amy) go 1-2 at the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships Sun, November 12, at Belmont Plateau. Archbishop Prendergast three-peats in team competition. Dougherty's Matt Mereba pulls away from O'Hara's Rich Anderson for 16:11 and the win. But Cardinal O'Hara takes team title for first time in 18 years. Details on DyeStatPA NY CHSAA - Charles Milleon of St. Anthony's finished first in 12:48 at Van Cortlandt Park, but then came Chaminade 27. With the next three runners and 6 of the top 12, Chaminade was an easy winner of the 73rd catholic boys championship in New York. Details coming. CA Sectionals - Madera sr Heather Hansen,after being slowed by an ankle sprain earlier in the season, wins Central Section Div 1 with a strong 18:36 3.1mi time over the Woodward Park state meet course. She finished 14 seconds ahead of Kelli Vanderburg. But Vanderburg led Buchanan to the team title with 25 points. Mt. SAC winner J.J. Duke 15:37 led Clovis to the Div 1 boys title. McFarland swept Div 4, but Taft's Billy Nelson 15:56 was the individual winner. Meanwhile, in the Sac Joaquin section, Granite Bay freshman Caitlyn Chock won Div 2 with a shocking 17:59 time. And how about this from the North Bay League (2.97 mi): 1. Amber Trotter 17:00, 2. Sara Bei 17:12, 3. Jenny Aldridge 17:52. AZ State Meet - Sally Meyerhoff, Mtn Pointe 18:48 3.1 mi nips Amanda Lyon by 1 second. Kevin Billington 16:04 is fastest boy of the day . Complete Results NV State Meet - Fastest of day: Bret Ferrier, Lowry 16:24 5k, and Shanna Sparks, Carson 19:37. Details OH The year of St. Xavier - Third straight victory over Cincinnati Northbend Road rival LaSalle stamps St. Xavier as the greatest Ohio cross country team ever. NM State Meet - Two-time Foot Locker national finalist jr Felicia Guliford 19:50 5k was not in top shape but still led US#14 Gallup girls to 5A win. Guliford was 51 seconds slower than last year on the Red Rock SP course, and two 3A girls ran faster times on a cold, windy, rainy day at 6500 feet elevation -- Jackie Gallegos 19:33 and Erin Lewis 19:45. The Gallup boys, ranked US#19, were upset by Sandia, 32-56. Choices 2000 First Class of 2001 choice is Kendra Wecker, of Marysville KS, the US#1 javelin thrower (169-5), who will go to Kansas State.
