GIRLS
The injury layoff didn't stop Baldwin's Julia Pudlin from running the third fastest 3000 of the indoor season (she has the fastest) at the DVGTCA Meet of Champions Friday night at Lehigh University.
Her 10:10.18 was 18 seconds better than St. Hubert's Jackie Kelly (10:28.40), and 26 seconds up on rising frosh star Julie Opet of Radnor (10:36.98). Pudlin had injured her ankle at the finish of the Millrose Mile.
In the 60 meter dash, Kennent's Jackie Bailey ran a new US#2 7:55, and William Penn's Juanita Broaddus took home first in the 200 with a US#11 25.29. Penn Wood's Danielle Rodgers improved her indoor best in the 800 in 2:18.32.
Kim Malcolm held off a charging Paige Miller in the mile leg of the DMR, as Villa Maria ran a US#3 12:24.54 with splits of 2:26.2, 3:47.9, 62.3 and 5:08. Miller's split of 5:03 was a PR for the distance, and helped her team to a US#6 12:26.50.
William Penn held true to form in the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400 relays, taking the first in 1:43.06 and running a 3:56.2 in the latter.
Kelly opened the meet by helping her St. Hubert's team to an upset of power William Penn in the 4 x 800, as they ran the fourth fastest indoor time of 2001 in 9:34.22, now #1 in PA. Their splits were 2:28.5, 2:19.8, 2:26.8 and 2:18.8.
And North Penn's Jess Johnson tuned up for States with her second best throw of the season in the Shot Put with a 41-1.5.
