July 6, 2005

After sleeping in this morning I went down to eat breakfast in the hotel. It was almost noon but I thought that I should get some toast before my workout that I was going to do in the afternoon. I tried to order it but the waitress said that the breakfast bread (whatever that means), was put away and they couldn't toast the lunch bread. I had no idea what she was talking about but finally convinced her to bring me some bread.

I ate it and then went to the track for training. Before the workout Alberto told me not to worry about times because neither of us could tell how I would feel after a long day of travel. I was a little nervous heading in to the workout because usually after traveling my legs feel tired and heavy the next day. In this workout though I would just run at a solid effort and the times were going to be what they were going to be. I ended up running 2x600 cut down(600, 400, 300, 200) in 1:27, 57, 41, and 26.

For recovery I took a 400, 300, 200, and 400 jog. I felt pretty good and was pleased with how the workout went. I did half of my cooldown barefoot and then did plenty of drills and hurdle work. After the workout I went back to the hotel and took a nap. During the winter when I was not in school I took a nap every day for 2-3 hours but I kind of got away from the habit when I was in school in the spring. They are important though for recovery and I am glad to be able to take them every day now that school is out for summer.

When I woke up from my nap I ate dinner and then watched the meeting in Lausanne. It is real cool to be able to watch all of the grandprix and golden league meets live on TV. Track gets lots of TV coverage in Europe. Tomorrow I will take a train to Cuxhaven and meet up with the Gouchers where we will run the 1500m and 3000m.
