SHANGHAI, China - The second stop of the 2025 Wanda Diamond League delivered thrilling performances on May 3 in Shanghai/Keqiao, with North American athletes stealing headlines alongside some of the sport’s top international stars.

American sprint hurdler Grace Stark blazed to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking a meet record and world-leading 12.42 seconds. She held off Jamaica’s Danielle Williams (12.55) and South Africa’s Marione Fourie (12.62), stamping her authority early in the Diamond League season.

In the men’s 110m hurdles, Cordell Tinch (USA) continued his breakout run, also setting a meet record with 12.87 seconds to finish ahead of Japan’s Rachid Muratake (13.10) and Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell (13.24).

Anavia Battle (USA) stayed unbeaten on the circuit, capturing the women’s 200m in a season-best 22.38 seconds, defeating Ireland’s Rhasidat Adeleke (22.72) and Norway’s Henriette Jæger (22.86). Meanwhile, Christopher Bailey (USA) stormed to a men’s 400m win in 44.17 seconds, holding off Botswana’s Bayapo Ndori (44.32) in a tight finish.

On the infield, Valarie Allman (USA) continued her global dominance in the women’s discus, launching a world-leading throw of 70.08 meters to win convincingly. In the women’s shot put, Chase Jackson (USA) delivered a commanding performance, tossing 20.54 meters for the win, while teammate Maggie Ewen placed fifth with 19.28 meters.

Middle-distance efforts included Addison Wiley (USA) placing fifth in the women’s 800m with a season-best 1:58.59, while Sage Hurta-Klecker (USA) crossed seventh in 1:59.11.

International stars also shone brightly. Norway’s Karsten Warholm opened his 400m hurdles season with a swift 47.28-second win, and South Africa’s Akani Simbine narrowly edged Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson to claim the men’s 100m in 9.98 seconds. Swedish pole vault superstar Armand Duplantis soared over 6.11 meters to secure another win, while Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh topped the women’s high jump with a 2.00-meter clearance. Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma ran a meet record 1:56.64 to claim the women’s 800m.

As the Diamond League season heats up, Shanghai/Keqiao delivered a clear message: North American athletes are here to contend — and the world’s best are ready for a summer of fierce competition leading to Paris.
