Saniah Varnado Wins 300 Hurdles, Wilson Boys Run 3:13 In 4x400; Rosary Girls Dominate 4x100 And 4x200 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor DyeStat File Photo Junior Saniah Varnado of Wilson (Long Beach) CA had a hand in four victories and a second place finish on Friday and Saturday at the 23rd New Balance California Relays in Long Beach. Varnado ran an early US#6 time of 42.45 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles under the lights Friday at Woodrow Wilson High. She was sixth at the CIF state final in the 300 hurdles last June. Two weeks out from its annual trip to the Oregon Relays presented by ATHLETIC, the Bruins showed all of its typical relays and hurdles prowess. Varnado also placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and carried the baton in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Rosary CA won the girls 4x200 relay in a US#2 time of 1:36.74 and Wilson was second in US#9 1:38.83. In the 4x100 relay, Rosary ran a US#3 time of 45.77 seconds. Culver City was second in 47.39. Justine Wilson of Rosary also won the 400 meters in 54.12. Teammate Maliyah Collins won the 100 in 11.71. Serra (Gardena) won the boys 4x200 in 1:26.69. Junior Shirayah Lewis-Williams of Wilson ran a US#10 time of 2:10.94 to win the girls 800 meters. Jayden Rendon from Carson CA ran a US#9 time of 37.60 to win the boys 300-meter hurdles. The Wilson boys ran a pair of spectacular relay times. The Bruins won the 4x400 relay with US#3 3:13.01 and the Sprint Medley in US#4 3:35.45. Wilson junior Kaedyn Burroughs won the 400 meters in 47.46 seconds. More news |
