After Olympic Trials Disappointment Curtis Beach is Done with Multis, Will Focus on Individual Events Only

By Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor

Curtis Beach is finished competing in the multi-events.

The former junior national decathlon champion finished fourth in the heptathlon at last year's IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland. However, when it came to the Olympic Trials, Beach finished a disappointing ninth in the decathlon.

“I think it was mainly that I wasn’t having as much fun as I did in the past," the now 26-year-old Beach told Rick Wright of the Albuquerque Journal about his decision to leave the multi-events behind him.

Going forward, Beach has decided to focus solely on individual events. This weekend at the USATF Indoor Championships in Beach's hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He will compete in the 600 meters against a stacked field that includes Casimir Loxsom, who set a world best of 1:14.91 five weeks ago.

“Right now I have no plans to come back to the multis," Beach said of his future plans, which will include a move to the 400-meter hurdles. He ran a personal best 49.87 in a race in Houston last summer.

While Beach is confident he could have won the heptathlon in front of his friends and family this weekend, he is still happy with his decision to compete in the 600 meters.

"I just wanted to do the 600."
