FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Coming close in championship track meets is getting old fast for fourth-year LSU coach Dennis Shaver. And it’s getting really frustrating.
Since taking over as head coach of the LSU program in 2005, Shaver’s men’s and women’s teams have been in a total of 14 NCAA indoor and outdoor championship meets. Six times the Lady Tigers and Tigers have finished second —three on each side. The latest runner-up finish came Saturday night when the top-ranked LSU women came up eight points short to Arizona State, which has now won the last three NCAA titles (two indoors, one outdoors).
