Are you ready for the biggest weekend of the NCAA DI Cross Country regular season?

That’s a trick question, because we know you are. At least you better be. (You can probably tell that we are since we’re posting about this on Monday, a full four days until the first race.)

Mid-October means it’s time for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, and the Pre-National Invitational in Columbia, Missouri.

How can you not be romantic about cross country after looking at those charts?

Eighteen ranked men’s teams and nineteen ranked women’s teams will take on the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, Wisconsin. Six top-ten squads from the most recent Men’s National Coaches’ Poll and six top-ten teams from the most recent Women’s National Coaches’ Poll will toe the start line in the Badger State. Expand that and you’re looking at ten of the top-15 teams on the men’s side and nine on the women’s.

While only one top-ten team will be in the men’s race at the Pre-National Invitational, fans will be treated to a barnburner between top-ranked BYU and No. 3 Florida in the women’s race. The Gators return to the site of their emphatic victory earlier this season at the Gans Creek Classic. The Cougars made quick work of the competition at the Cowboy Jamboree without a few of their top runners.
