2008 LetsRun.com NCAA SuperPolls: Oregon Ducks Reign Supreme
October 17, 2008
By LetsRun.com

The first 2008 NCAA LetsRun.com Super Polls are out and the Oregon Ducks are #1 on the men's and women's side. In the coaches' polls Washington, not Oregon, is #1 on the women's side, but the LetsRun.com faithful like the Ducks.

On the men's side Oklahoma State is a much stronger threat to Oregon for the #1 spot than in the coaches' polls. The Cowboys have 52 first place votes well more than half as many as Oregon (85). In the coaches' polls, Oregon got 11 first place votes and OSU only 1. Can the Cowboys do the unthinkable and defeat the defending national champs who returned everyone from last year's squad?

If you think winning nationals is a tall order for the OSU Cowboys then winning the Big 12 might be nearly as difficult. There have been 12 Big 12 Cross Country races ever held, and 12 times Mark Wetmore's Colorado Buffaloes have walked away with the crown. Perhaps this year, unlucky #13, will put an end to Wetmore's reign of 12 for 12 in the Big 12. The OSU Cowboys are a strong favorite in the LetsRun.com Big 12 Conference Polls.

And if you think Wetmore's streak is impressive, John McDonnell's Arkansas Razorbacks won 34 straight conference titles. Unfortunately, McDonnell is no longer coaching the Razorbacks this year, and in the first year with a new coach the Razorback are heavy underdogs in the SEC Polls.
