Julian Brown Elevates Nation-Leading High Jump Mark At Beach Run InvitationalPublished by
Myrtle Beach SC Junior Breaks Meet Record, Moves To No. 15 All-Time With 7-4.25 (2.24m) Clearance By Keenan Gray of DyeStat Julian Brown of Myrtle Beach SC improved his nation-leading height in the boys high jump Saturday afternoon at the Beach Run Invitational, going from 7 feet, 2.5 inches (2.20m) to 7-4.25 (2.24m). Brown, who was eighth as New Balance Nationals Outdoor last June, has shown significant improvement in the high jump after only clearing 6-8.75 (2.05m) as a sophomore. This spring, Brown cleared a personal best 6-10 (2.08m) on Feb. 25 in his first meet and then cleared seven feet for the time on March 21. Brown's progression began with a first attempt make at 6-4 followed by a second attempt at 6-6. He then had four consecutive clearances (6-9, 6-10.25, 7-00.25, 7-3) before making his first attempt at 7-4.25, which was over 14 inches higher than the second-place finisher. Brown took three attempts at 7-5 before bowing out of the competition. Brown moves himself to No. 15 all-time in prep history and is a half-an-inch from cracking the top 10. Had he made one of his attempts at 7-5, he would have moved up to seventh all-time. Brown also competed in the long jump, finishing second with 22-1 (6.73m), and was the penultimate leg on Myrtle Beach's third-place 4x200 relay team. Keenen Davis of Archbishop Carroll DC made his 400 meters hurdles season debut with a personal best 51.46 seconds, both a meet record and US#1. Archbishop Carroll also went 1-2 in the boys 400 led by Austin Smith in a meet record 47.53 and Jordan Waller in 47.95. Dacian Davis of Monroe Area SC broke both a meet and facility record in the boys discus, throwing 177-2 (54.00m) to win by almost 27 feet. Miracle McLean of Carolina Forest SC cleared a US#6 5-9.75 (1.77m) to win the girls high jump in a meet record. More news |
