By Derry Eads Posted April 12, 2010 at 10:19 p.m. Just how fast can Agoura High hurdler Jonathan Cabral go? Just how far up the all-time state list will the Rio Mesa boys’ 4x100 relay team finish? Will Alex Morgan of Ventura break the county record for the girls’ discus throw? Only midway through the high school track and field season, area athletes find themselves well placed on state and national lists. Seven individuals and two relays are ranked among the top 10 in the nation. Cabral owns two area records and is ranked No. 3 in the 300 hurdles and No. 6 for the 110 hurdles nationally. The Rio Mesa 4x100 and 4x400 relays are No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, among the nation’s best. Other area athletes in the top 10 are: Morgan, No. 3, girls’ discus; Oaks Christian’s Nick DiMartino, No. 5, boys’ long jump; Liberty Miller, Simi Valley, No. 5, girls’ 3,200; Tayler Johnson, Oak Park, No. 7, girls’ high jump; Travis Edwards, Royal, No. 10, boys’ mile run. Lydia French of Thousand Oaks, Reagan Nizdil of Rio Mesa and Johnson could equal or break the county record of 5 feet, 10 inches for the girls’ high jump this season.
