DyeStat Discussions - EP 1191 - Sinclaire Johnson
Published by
Sinclaire Johnson, who recently broke the American record in the mile at the London Diamond League on July 19, joins DyeStat's Keenan Gray on the newest episode of DyeStat Discussions ahead of competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., July 31-August 3. Johnson talks about her record-breaking 4:16.32 mile in London that lowered Nikki Hiltz's American record of 4:16.35 and how that will carry her momentum over to USAs when she goes to the start line in the women's 1,500 meters where she hopes to make her third World outdoor team. At last year's U.S. Olympic Trials, Johnson ran a personal best 3:56.75 in the 1,500, finishing fourth in one of the greatest U.S. finals featuring eight women run under four minutes. She reflects on how that race was a breakthrough moment for her despite the year being filled with injuries and how it made her realize what it was going to take to make future U.S. teams. Johnson also made a coaching chance within the last year, leaving Union Athletics Club to stay in Portland and train with her fiancée, Craig Nowak. Since making a coaching change, Johnson has stayed healthy and has produced career-best times between the indoor and outdoor seasons. Johnson finally shares her thoughts on competing at USAs, how overcoming setbacks have made her mentally stronger as a competitor, and why she believes she belongs on the world championship stage. |
