Here is an event-by-event breakdown of what to look for in these girls field events Friday and Saturday at the 48th Arcadia Invitational:

Long Jump (6:40 p.m. Saturday)
Favorite: Harvard-Westlake's Courtney Corrin. Her seventh-place finish at last year's meet has served as motivation for Corrin to come back and win a second title in three years and possibly surpass 21 feet.
Other contenders: Agoura's Tara Davis, Mountlake Terrace's (Washington) Chinne Okoronkwo, Redlands' Margaux Jones. Davis is the national leader under all conditions, Jones is the defending state champion and Okoronkwo is one of the most versatile jumpers in the country.
Sleeper: Vista Murrieta's Lovie Burleson. Won the Mount Carmel Invitational title and finished eighth at last year's meet, so she is familiar with Arcadia runways.

Triple Jump (4:45 p.m. Saturday)
Favorite: Mountlake Terrace's (Washington) Chinne Okoronkwo. Simplot Games winner and third-place finisher at New Balance Indoor Nationals has several 41-foot efforts in her career.
Other contenders: Agoura's Tara Davis, Great Oak's Ciynamon Stevenson, Vista Murrieta's Lovie Burleson. Davis is the wind-legal national outdoor leader at 40-11 1/2, with Stevenson also surpassing 40 feet at the Corona Relays and Burleson returning as last year's third-place finisher.
Sleeper: Carondelet's Christina Chenault. The Mount Carmel Invitational winner has eclipsed 39 feet several times, but a 40-foot leap would put her in title contention after placing fourth last year.

High Jump (4:55 p.m. Saturday)
Favorite: Bishop Gorman's (Nevada) Vashti Cunningham. Cleared 6-2 to win last year and is the national leader this season at 6-2 1/2, just missing on three attempts at the U.S. high school record of 6-4 1/4.
Other contenders: Harvard-Westlake's Alexandria Florent, Upland's Skyler Daniel, Buena's Erinn Beattie. The California standouts are all capable of challenging the 6-foot barrier, but Cunningham is the clear favorite.
Sleeper: Mikella-Lefebvre-Oatis (Canada). College Sainte-Anne junior was ranked No. 1 in the world for her age in 2012 with a clearance of 5-8 3/4 and is experienced in big arenas.

Pole Vault (4:30 p.m. Saturday)
Favorite: Santa Margarita's Kaitlyn Merritt. The two-time Arcadia champion looks to clear 14 feet for the second time in her high school career.
Other contenders: Anaheim Canyon's Rachel Baxter, Pacific Collegiate's Erika Malaspina. Merritt's fellow California competitors are the only other athletes in the field to have cleared 13 feet this year.
Sleeper: Mater Dei's McKenna Caskey. Placed third at last year's meet as a freshman and is coming off a victory at the Mt. Carmel Invitational.

Shot Put (5:40 p.m. Saturday)
Favorite: San Jose Valley Christian's Elena Bruckner. Her national-leading 49-10 is more than a foot better than anyone else in the country and she is the top returner after placing sixth last year.
Other contenders: Vacaville's Brandi French, Newbury Park's Kendall Mader. Both ranked in the top five in the country with marks beyond 46 feet.
Sleeper: Notre Dame's Nia Britt. One of the most talented throwers in the country, this could be her breakout performance this season representing the Knights.

Discus Throw (3:45 p.m. Saturday)
Favorite: Newbury Park's Kendall Mader. National outdoor leader at 164-4 looks for significant improvement from last year's 15th-place finish at Arcadia.
Other contenders: San Jose Valley Christian's Elena Bruckner, Oakdale's Hannah Chappell. Bruckner is more known for her shot put prowess, but she is U.S. No. 4 at 152-8. Chappell is the top returner after placing third in last year's final.
Sleeper: Zakiya Rashid (Virginia). Nansemond River senior has personal-best of 149-10 and looks for big performance in first big outdoor meet.
