Padua girls roll up 199 points in D1

 

State Meet Highlights

 
The Delaware state championships (DIAA) were conducted in two divisions at Dover High School. Following the two division championship meets there is a MOC.



Top Performances:

 
Jarod Wilson, a senior from Newark, won the D1 boys 800 meters in 1:52.04.

 
Maiya Dendy of Padua, a senior and all-time sprints record holder in Delaware, won the 400 meters (55.86) and finished second in both the 100 and 200.

 

- Sophomore Daija Lampkin from Middletown won the D1 girls 100 meters in 12.13 and the 200 meters in 24.97 – knocking off reigning champion Maiya Dendy twice in the process. She also anchored Middletown to the 4x200 relay victory. She was also second in the 400 with 56.48.

 

- Freshman Lydia Olivere of Padua, the state cross country champion, added D1 track titles in the 3,200 (10:46.70) and 1,600 (5:06.97). She was also third in the 800.

 

- Micaiah Dendy of St. George’s Tech, a junior, won the D2 girls triple jump with 37-1.75. She was also fourth in the long jump and second in the high jump.

 

- Najiya Cornish of Ursuline, a freshman, won the D2 girls sprint titles, taking the 100 (12.21) and the 200 (25.16).

 

- Chiason Tenkeang of William Penn won the D1 100 meters and 200 meters and anchored his team to the win in the 4x200.

 

- Jay Whalen from Glasgow won the D1 boys 400 meters in 48.98. He also anchored Glasgow to the 4x400 relay victory. And he was second in the 200.


Garth Warner of Concord jumped 6-8 to win the D1 boys high jump.

 
Ashley Bailey of Middletown defended her title in the D1 pole vault with 11-6.

 
Kieran Tuntivate of Charter School of Wilmington won the D1 boys 1600 and 3200 and was third in the 800. He ran an even more impressive distance double (4:14.49/9:09.95) later at the MOC.




Top Teams:


The Dover boys, on their home track won the Div 1 title with a whopping 127 points. The bigger story was the Padua girls, who broke their own state meet scoring record with 199 points. In the past two years, Padua has scored 391 points!


Tatnall, a private school with a national brand, is accustomed to winning the D2 titles but this year had to settle for second in both genders. The Lake Forest boys scored 142 points for the win and the Hodgson Vo-Tech girls scored 126.



Top Competition: Padua's Maiya Dendy had her hands full with sophomore Daija Lampkin from Middletown, who took two of three finals in the sprints.



 

Record-breakers: In the MOC meet, Ashley Bailey broke her own state record in the pole vault with 12-3.
