Tennessee State Meet

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Sasha Neglia didn't take any wrong turns this time. A year after accidentally cutting the course by going on the wrong side of a tree -- and a disqualification -- the Dobyns-Bennett senior ran an impressive time of 17.22.9 to win her third Tennessee state title and also led her team to its first championship since 1997.

Neglia was nearly 30 seconds ahead of runner-up Leigh Walters of Page (17:51.7) and defending champion Jenna Hutchins of Science Hill, who was third in 17:54.9.

Silas Winders from Henry Country ran 15:28.9 to win the boys D1 Large school race for the first time. Evan Allen of Chester County was four seconds back.

Siegel put two in the top 10 and won the boys championship with 80 points.

Edimo Ninterestse of Chattanooga Christian School won the D2 Large school boys race in 16:28.8. McCallie School put four in the top 14 on the way to a team title with 38 points.

Callie Tucker from Knoxville Catholic won the girls race in 18:56 and had a 22-second advantage on second place. Brentwood Academy scored 73 points for the team win.

In the D1 Small school boys race, Seth Jinks from L&N STEM Academy was the top finisher in 16:39.2.

Signal Mountain swept the D1 Small team championships.

Alyssa Andrea from Fairview, a freshman, won the girls race in 20:26.7.

Senior Timothy Hays led a 1-2 finish for the victorious University School of Nashville, clocking 16:35.4.

Allison Newman, likewise, led a 1-2 finish in the girls race for St. George's Independent School. She was timed in 18:52.7. Her team put all five in the top 16.
