Brynn Brown of Denton Guyer ran the fastest 5,000-meter time ever by a girl at the Texas UIL State Cross Country Championships on Tuesday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

Brown, who missed the 2019 state meet due to injury, ran 16:25.9 for a 32-second victory over runner-up Sophie Atkinson of Katy Cinco Ranch. It was another 41 seconds until third-place finisher Heidi Nielson, also of Katy Cinco Ranch, crossed the finish line.

Brown has run sub-16:30 five times in her career in 5-kilometer races, more than any girl in prep history.

Lewisville Flower Mound won the 6A girls team championship with 75 points and perennial power and 2019 champion Southlake Carroll was second with 95 points.

Judson Greer of Melissa won his third consecutive Class 4A cross country title, running 14:51.9.

The North Carolina commit, who won the Nov. 15 XC Town USA Meet of Champions race in Indiana, went through the first mile in 4:27.5. He won by 39 seconds. He joins Leo Manzano of Marble Falls (2001, 2002 and 2003) and Graydon Morris of Aledo (2017, 2018 and 2019) on a select list of three-time Texas state champions.

The Texas UIL State Cross Country Meet was held over two days, Monday and Tuesday in Round Rock, with one classification at a time having a presence at the venue. Tuesday's lineup included the Class 2A, 4A and 6A finals for boys and girls.

The Southlake Carroll boys won a tight team battle with El Paso Eastwood, 78-84, for the Dragons' fifth title. Eastwood won the 5A title in 2018 and 2019 before moving up.

Luke Lambert of Wylie won the individual title in the 6A boys race, running 15:03.5. Martin David-Chavez of Duncanville was second (15:17.3).

The San Elizario duo of Edwin Gomez and Dilan Sanchez went 2-3 and helped lift the team over Greer's Melissa squad on a sixth-runner tiebreaker. San Elizario had all seven runners in ahead of Melissa's sixth.

The Canyon girls, with two finishers in the top 10, Abree Winfrey and Breanna Stewart, won the team title for the second year in a row with 68 points. Adele Clarke of Celina won the 4A girls 3,200-meter race in 11:31.04.

In the boys 2A final, Port Aransas had big advantages with its third, fourth and fifth scorers on the way to a victory with 53 points. Poolville's Henry Fierro ran 15:57.7 to win the individual title.

Sundown won the girls team championship with 53 points. Individual honors went to Kyla Kane of Wellington, who won the 3,200-meter race in 12:08.5.

The 5A/3A/1A classes ran state finals Monday.

The girls from Boerne Champion won their second straight 5A title, and second overall, by scoring 75 points and winning a tightly contested battle with Grapevine (89) and Colleyville Heritage (90). Anastacia Gonzales' third-place finish led the charge for Champion.

Freshman Isabel Conde De Frankenberg of Cedar Park ran 17:10.7 to win the individual title.

The top two schools were flipped on the boys side. Grapevine won it with 61 points and Boerne Champion was next with 104 points. Grapevine's Walker St. John overtook Lubbock's Isaac Alonzo in the final 50 meters to win an exciting race 14:42.2 to 14:44.2.

Seniors Marco Rey and Emilio Rios finished second and fifth, respectively, to help lift Presidio to the Class 3A boys championship. Senior William Boyce from Onalaska won the individual title in 15:38.7.

Freshman Yierra Flemings of Cameron Yoe won the 3,200-meter girls final in 11:48.5.

Lago Vista's scoring five spanned 36 seconds, led by freshman Aly Wray, the 10th-place finisher (12:20.8), to secure the team title.

The Cumby Miller Grove boys won their fourth consecutive Class 1A team title, putting five scorers across the finish line in the top 11 places overall. Junior Isaiah Billingsley won for the second straight year and clipped six seconds off of his 2019 time, running 15:22.3.
