Let’s take a look at the race previews, in the same order as the schedule.

Varsity Girls 3A & 4A Team Preview
Our hypothetical preview shows the girls team race to be tight up front. While our preview has the Wellington girls winning with 88 points, Ferguson is right on their heels with 93 points. The Ferguson girls need to keep in mind that every point will count when they get to the last 100 meters of the race. Ferguson’s best chance to win is if their 4th and 5th runners get closer to the 21 minute mark, returning to their regular performances from last season.

Varsity Girls 3A & 4A Individual Preview
Get ready for a glimpse into the future of Florida girls running, as two 9th grade girls will battle it out for the win in the 3A/4A race. Rylee Pustilnik of Spanish River, currently the second fastest 9th grader in the state, and Valarie Lastra of Mater Academy, only two spots behind her in fourth, have the two fastest season bests coming into the Spanish River 3A/4A race. They both have season bests over one minute faster than the next competitor, 10th grader Caitlyn Lopez of Wellington. Although their season bests are only six seconds apart, I believe Pustilnik has a slight edge over Lastra because she has yet to be beat this season. She is also racing on her home course. Confidence may treat her well in this exciting matchup against Lastra.

Varsity Girls 1A & 2A Team Preview
The Pine Crest girls will easily run away with this race, scoring 16 points in our hypothetical preview. The only question now is whether or not they will score the elusive 15 points. If Emily Faulhaber of Pine Crest can slide past Courtney Barber of the Pine School, we will see a 1-5 finish for Pine Crest.

Varsity Girls 1A & 2A Individual Preview
Just after we see the impressive 9th graders Pustilnik and Lastra, in the 3A/4A race, we will see the equally impressive Tsion Yared of Pine Crest. Yared, who has run 18:57 so far this season, and was ranked fourth in 2A in the first FACA Coaches Poll, has run 45 seconds faster than the next competitor, teammate Simone Vreeland.

Varsity Boys 3A & 4A Team Preview
Belen Jesuit
, who has only lost to Satellite High School so far this season, looks to add yet another win to their season at the Spanish River 3A/4A boys race. Our hypothetical preview shows them scoring only 35 points, besting Spanish River by 60 points. We do not see the Belen boys having any trouble running away with this race.

Varsity Boys 3A & 4A Individual Preview
Just like his team, Joshua Collins of Belen Jesuit looks to take home another win, after crossing the line first in four of his five races this season. However, Collins needs to watch out for Deshay Fernandes of Christopher Columbus, who has run 16:25 this season and beat Collins at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo XC Invite. I would guess that Collins was pacing or running the race as a workout, as the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo XC Invite was a Thursday meet, and the Belen boys raced again that Saturday at the DDD Sommer Invitational.

Varsity Boys 1A & 2A Team Preview
Just like the girls team, the Pine Crest boys finish first in our hypothetical preview, with 63 points. They do have a nice lead of 46 points over The Pine School, but it is not the 138 point lead the girls team has. The Pine School will need more than just a couple points here and there to best Pine Crest, so look for Pine Crest to take home the “W.”

Varsity Boys 1A & 2A Individual Preview

The last time we saw Lincoln Park Academy's 2A State 3200m champion Caleb Potorff, we were all taking cover from impending rain and lightning at the Martin County Under the Lights Invitational back on August 26th. He looked extremely fit after a long summer of outstanding training at altitude in Colorado.

The meet was eventually cancelled and we didn't see Potorff compete. Not much has changed in that regard. Here we are four weeks into the season, and tomorrow will hopefully be his introduction to the State rankings as one of Florida's top harriers.

Ideally, we would see him race in the 3A/4A race and see a real duel with the likes of Collins and Fernandes; not that he won't have some company in the 1A/2A field.

Joshua Skielnik of Jupiter Christian had a great race at the Wickham Park Cross Country Jamboree earlier this season with a PR of 16:12, putting him in the #1 position in our hypothetical preview. However, behind him Skielnik has three runners on his heels who have run between 15:56 and 16:16 in previous seasons. Keep in mind that these three runners, Chase Hyland of the Pine School, Danny Ferro of Calvary Christian, and Michael Kennedy of Pine Crest, have only run 16:29, 16:44, and 17:09, respectively, this season. This just might be the race for them to get back to their 2015 form.
