If you have run the North Port XC Invitational in the past few years, you certainly did not leave dry. However, that may change this year. With no rain on the forecast for this weekend, North Port's Head Boys Cross Country Coach, Phu Nguyen, says the course is "very hard and compact and ready to produce fast times." Here is a look at which teams will be taking to the course at this weekend's North Port XC Invitational.

Girls Elite Team Preview

In our hypothetical preview, the Fort Myers girls are way out ahead with 85 points. The next closest team is Osceola Fundamental, with 148 points. However, Osceola Fundamental does not have that second place finish locked up, as the girls from Newsome are a mere six points behind. If Newsome's fourth runner, Maria Somrah, can get closer to her 2015 season best time, we might see the Newsome girls slide up into second place.

Girls Elite Individual Preview

Out front, expect to see Riverview's Bailey Hertenstein. In fact, you might see her way out front. Coach Phu Nguyen is most excited about this Girls Elite race because he thinks Hertenstein can break the course record of 17:18. "If it stays dry and she gets pushed early, she has a really good chance," says Coach Nguyen.

Hertenstein, who won last year's FHSAA 4A Cross Country Championships in 17:32, has only run 18:10 so far this season, but has won every race by a wide margin. Hertenstein is not the only runner that knows what it is like to win, though, as seven of the top 10 ranked girls in this race have won a meet this season. That gives you a little insight into the talent that you will see perform in this race.

Boys Elite Team Preview

Just like the Girls Elite race, we have a clear front runner for the Boys Elite team race. Scoring only 88 points in our hypothetical preview, Naples looks to take home the 'W' at this weekend's North Port XC Invitational. Behind Naples are the Fort Myers boys, followed by Newsome. It will be interesting to see if the Newsome boys can oust Fort Myers from that second place finish. With only an 18 second spread between their one and five runner, they might be able to run together as a pack and bring in PRs for the whole squad.

Boys Elite Individual Preview

On the individual side, Alex Normadia of Land O' Lakes is coming off a huge PR and win at the Wesley Chapel vs. Land O Lakes Dual Meet. Running 16:12, that puts him in the number one spot in our individual hypothetical preview. About 20 seconds behind Normandia is Cooper LaBrant of Indian Rocks Christian, coming in with a season best of 16:32. Right on LaBrant's heels will be Nickolas Kamen of Gulf Coast and Andrew Csubak of St. Stephens Episcopal, with season bests of 16:37 and 16:39, respectively.
