Each year, the University of Florida’s Mountain Dew Cross Country Invitational showcases some of the best talent in the state. This year’s meet will be held on Saturday, September 24th at the familiar UF Golf Course.
Here are the teams racing in this year’s Orange (Seeded) races.

Boys Orange (Seeded) Team Preview Our hypothetical preview shows the St. Thomas Aquinas boys 46 points ahead of the Belen Jesuit Wolverines. However, don’t let a seemingly large 46-point gap fool you. This race has 49 teams entered, so points can be shaved off easily. In fact, the spread from 16:50 to 17:15 is 28 places. This is a vital area for Belen’s two through four runners, who have season bests between 16:54 and 17:12. If those boys can run together as a pack and move closer towards that 16:50 mark, they might have a chance at beating St. Thomas Aquinas. However, the Raiders will be coming in confident after last week’s win over Belen at the Spanish River Cross Country Invitational. The St. Thomas Aquinas boys have been ranked first in 4A for the past two FACA Coaches Polls, while the Belen boys made a large jump from fifth in 3A in the first poll, to first in this week’s poll.

Boys Orange (Seeded) Individual Preview This Boys Orange race will feature four athletes who have already broken 16, including last year’s second place finisher, Trevor Foley. Foley ran an impressive 15:34 at last year’s meet and will be running as an individual this year, which is why you do not see him in the top 10 listing below. We hope Foley can record another fast time this weekend and break his season best time of 16:33. Others you will most certainly see up front include Mason Jones of Titusville, Calum McFetridge of Buchholz, and Joshua Collins of Belen Jesuit. These three boys have all run under 16 minutes this year, and if the temperature stays in the 70s, we might see some times much further below 16 flat.

Girls Orange (Seeded) Team Preview The team that we expect to see out front in this weekend's UF Mt. Dew Cross Country Invitational Girls Orange Seeded race is George Steinbrenner. In our hypothetical preview, the girls from Steinbrenner have a 100-point lead over HB Plant. This makes sense, as Steinbrenner puts all five girls in front of HB Plant's number three. Very close behind HB Plant are the girls from Oak Hall. Expect to see a battle for second!

Girls Orange (Seeded) Individual Preview Excitingly, we will get to see MCC’s Amanda Beach run at this weekends UF Mt. Dew Cross Country Invitational. Beach is your state leader boasting a season best and PR of 17:47. Pushing Beach will be Jupiter’s Alexandra Del Re. Del Re, just a freshman, has only run one race this season, finishing with an impressive time of 18:11. I am very excited to see the race up front between Beach and Del Re. Del Re is entered as an individual and therefore is not shown in our hypothetical preview below. Freshman Rylee Pustilnik of Spanish River and senior Samantha Folio of Holy Trinity are the next two finishers in our hypothetical preview. Folio looks to break 19 for the first time this season and will have the right race to do so running next to Pustilnik. This would also be a great chance for Grace Blair of Oak Hall and Leigha Torino of North Marion (entered as an individual and not listed below) to get under 19 again for the first time this season. Both of these girls knows what it feels like to break 19 and are putting themselves in the right race to do it again.
