Christian Kocsis of Creekside High School made it official Thursday night when he publicly announced that he’d verbally committed to continue his running career at Belmont Abbey College, in North Carolina.

Christian took to Twitter to make his proclamation, tweeting “Blessed to say that I have committed to Belmont Abbey College for track and cross country!”

Interviewed by DyeStat Florida, Christian explained the recruiting process and how he ultimately came to his decision.

DyeStat Florida: “Why did you choose Belmont Abbey? What made it stand out from other potential schools?”

Christian Kocsis: “I chose Belmont Abbey over all of my other potential schools because not only did they want me to be part of their future and building their program, but the academic side of things was great as well. The campus is beautiful, the team was amazing and welcoming when I visited, and the coach was fantastic. I couldn’t see myself fitting into any other program as good.”

DyeStat Florida: “(In regards to choosing Belmont Abbey) Was it a tough decision? What other potential schools were you looking at?”

Christian Kocsis: “For me, it was not a tough decision. It seemed like the right place for my future success in running, and in my academic career. I was looking into Austin College, Oglethorpe, Illinois Institute of Technology, Piedmont, and the University of the Ozarks.”

DyeStat Florida: “What do you hope to accomplish by the end of your high school career to bring to the Crusaders in the fall?”

Christian Kocsis: “I hope to set personal bests all around the board and to continue to work hard everyday. Next fall, I want to bring my dedication and determination to my new team, and continue to push everyone around me through the next four years.”

DyeStat Florida: “How does it feel to be a Crusader?”

Christian Kocsis: “It feels great to be a Crusader. The atmosphere around Belmont Abbey College was amazing and I don’t think I could find that anywhere else. Every athlete there, from baseball to field hockey, supports everyone and every team there and that’s something that I look forward to.”

DyeStat Florida: “How does it feel to be starting a new chapter in your life?”

Christian Kocsis: “I am very excited. Belmont Abbey is the next step for me and I hope to thrive there both athletically and academically. I cannot wait to see what new opportunities lie ahead.”

DyeStat Florida: “What are you most looking forward to at Belmont Abbey?”

Christian Kocsis: “I am most looking forward to running with my new team and getting to know each and every one of them and training every day with them. When I visited the school, they couldn’t have been more welcoming and ultimately, that was a major deciding factor for me and committing to Belmont Abbey College.”
