Caster Semenya to Double in the 800 and 1,500 Meters at World Championships

Caster Semenya, Olympic champion at 800 meters for South Africa, will be doubling in the 800 and 1,500 meters at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships according to Ockert De Villiers of IOL.

Semenya has won four medals at global championships, including two gold, at 800 meters. Last week she broke her own national record in the 800 at the Monaco Diamond League meeting in 1:55.27.

The idea of Semenya doubling is not new. There were rumors that she would attempt the double at the Olympics last year, but she ended up sticking with just the 800 meters.

Semenya's experience at 1,500 meters is far less than in the 800.  She does have a personal best of 4:01.99 from last year, but has only run 4:16.87 this year. Semenya is the reigning CAA African Champion in both the 800 and 1,500 meters, giving her championship experience in the latter event.
