Postcard From Portland: Xavier CT Boys Day 2 at Nike Cross NationalsPublished by
Day Two: Near gear "blew everyone away" By Robbie Cozean of Xavier CT (Middletown) Hi everyone, Early wakeup today for an interview with Jeff Jacobs from the Hartford Courant. After we were done, we headed down for a really nice buffet breakfast. We then showered up and headed to the Nike campus on a coach bus. After we arrived at the Nike campus, we were shown the team room. Seeing our picture on the wall and trying on the newest Nike shoes was really incredible. Then, we headed to our team lockers. They blew everyone away. All of the gear is extremely nice, and it got everyone very excited for Saturday's race. After the gearing up session, we headed for our run. Nike's wood chip trail felt so great on the legs, and we finished up on the Michael Johnson track, which got us all excited as we knew this is the home track of some of the world's most elite runners. Coach enjoyed standing trackside chatting with Joan Hunter of Loudoun Valley. Back at the hotel, we got showered and had a really good lunch. We got some homework done and met with other teams in the hotel's athlete lounge. Tonight, we head to the Opening Ceremonies at Nike and are excited about what is to come.
