Troutner outkicks Hasty in boys race; Loudoun Valley VA (Purcellville) wins by 70 points

RESULTS

The first big news of the day was at the front of the boys race. Utahan Aidan Troutner, a future teammate of Casey Clinger at BYU, ran 15:03.9 and outkicked Brodey Hasty of Brentwood, Tenn. by two seconds in the final 200 meters. The pair hit the base of the final hills along with James Mwaura of Tacoma, Wash. 

Liam Anderson of Redwood CA overtook Mwaura before the finish and got third.

Troutner moved from fourth to first in the last 1,000 meters. 

No. 1 Loudoun Valley (Purcellville), the alma mater of Drew Hunter, won the team championship with 89 points. Manlius NY was a surprise at second with 159 points, four points up on Mountain Vista (Denver) CO.

Peter Morris led Loudoun Valley with a 12th place overall (third in team scoring) and Sam Affolder was 23rd (sixth in team scoring).

Transfer Sam Affolder bolstered an already strong lineup over the summer, but as it turned out Loudoun Valley would have won the title even without him.

Manlius upset the formchart with a young team to grab second. It is the fourth time in meet history that the Fayetteville-Manlius boys have finished second or better in meet history, giving the program an argument for the most successful in the history of NXN.

Downers North IL was fourth, Springville UT was fifth, Great Oak CA (Temecula) was sixth, CBA NJ (Lincroft) was seventh and Desert Vista AZ (Ahwautukee), the final at-large qualifier, was eighth.

GIRLS

Katelyn Tuohy blitzed the course from the start, running at 5:06 first mile and 16:44 for a course record-breaking win. 

Fayetteville-Manlius overcame illness in the final couple of days to pull out a five-point win for the program's 11th title in 12 years.
