Kenenisa Bekele To Chase World 25km Record at Kolkata 25k

By Adam Kopet

According to a race press release, Kenenisa Bekele will attempt the 25-kilometer world record Sunday at the Tata Steel Kolkata 25k, his first race in India.

Dennis Kimetto's 2012 world record of 1:11:18 is the primary goal for Bekele. However, if conditions do not permit a record attempt, Bekele would be happy to improve his personal best of 1:12:47.

This is Bekele's first race since dropping out of the Berlin Marathon.

Bekele, 35, plans to continue racing through the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. He desires to break the world marathon record, according to the Millennium Post, and win Olympic gold in the marathon.
