Kenya Names its IAAF World Half Marathon Championships Teams

By Adam Kopet

Kenya has named the men's and women's teams that will compete at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in March in Valencia, Spain.

The men's team is led by two-time winner Geoffrey Kamworor. His last race was the New York City Marathon, which he won. He owns a half marathon personal best of 58:54.

Kamworor won the 2016 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships despite falling at the start line. He has also shown prowess on the cross country course and the track.

Also representing Kenya in the men's competition will be Bedan Karoki, Joram Okombo, Leonard Barsoton and Barselius Kipyegon.

The women's team is led by half marathon world record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei. She broke the world record twice in 2017, including her 1:04:51 in October in Valencia. She also holds world records and all-time bests at 5, 10, 15 and 20 kilometers.

The rest of the Kenyan women's team include Fancy Chemtai, Ruth Chepngetich, Pauline Kaveke and Mary Wacera.
