Top College and Pro Action Highlight This Week's Performance of the Week ListIt was a big week for indoor track and field in the collegiate and professional ranks. The Dr. Sander Invitational/ Columbia Challenge provided many top marks, but meets around the country and around the world provided headlines with top-level and sometimes record-breaking performances. Edward Cheserek: The first year pro won the Fancy Mile at the New Mexico Team Invitational (held at over 5,000 feet of elevation) in a world-leading 3:54.73. Annette Echikunwoke: The Cincinnati senior became the #5 collegiate all-time performer in the women's weight throw at the Indiana University Relays with her throw of 77-8.75 (23.69m). Jordan Geist: The Arizona freshman had a big day at the Washington Indoor Invitational in the shot put with a mark of 70-4.5 (21.45m). This was his first time breaking the 70-foot barrier with the 16-pound shot. Brodey Hasty: The high school senior from Brentwood TN ran 4:03.26 for the mile at the Dr. Sander Invitational/Columbia Challenge, making him the boys #5 indoor performer of all-time. Lynna Irby: The Georgia freshman ran collegiate and world-leading times in the 200 and 400 meters at the Razorback Invitational. She ran 22.96 in the 200 and 51.48 in the 400. Shadrack Kipchirchir: The American distance runner ran a superb double at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, running 3:55.52 in the mile and 7:42.71 in the 3,000 meters. The latter is a world-leading mark. Michael Saruni: The UTEP sophomore ran a collegiate #2 all-time 1:45.19 for 800 meters at the Texas Tech Classic. That is also a world-leading time. Karissa Schweizer: The Missouri senior ran a collegiate #4 all-time 4:27.54 in the mile at the Dr. Sander Invitational/ Columbia Challenge. Samuel Tefera: The Ethiopian distance runner broke the world U20 1,500-meter record at the Meeting Elite en Salle de Leure in Val de Reuil with a world-leading 3:36.05. USA Women: The quartet of Kyra Jefferson, Deajah Stevens, Asha Ruth and Daina Harper set the American best in the 4x200 relay at the Dr. Sander Invitational/ Columbia Challenge, crossing the line in 1:32.67.
