Vivian Cheruiyot to Defend Her London Marathon TitlePublished by
Female Winners of the 2018 London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City Marathons to Race 2019 London MarathonBy Adam Kopet Vivian Cheruiyot will attempt to defend her 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon win at the 2019 edition of the race April 28, according to race organizers.
Cheruiyot was a surprise winner in 2018 after a fast early pace set by Mary Keitany proved to be too fast on the day when warmer than average temperatures impacted many of the athletes. Keitany returns to London this year, as well as the winners of the 2018 Berlin and Chicago Marathons, Gladys Cherono and Brigid Kosgei, respectively.
Also in the field is Tirunesh Dibaba, the third-fastest woman of all-time in the marathon. These five women have all run under 2:19, making the 2019 London Marathon the deepest women's field ever assembled. The London Marathon organizers released the entire elite field for this year's race via Twitter.
