Elaine Thompson Still Dealing with Achilles Injury as She Prepares for 2019 Outdoor SeasonPublished by
Elaine Thompson Is Still Dealing With the Injury that Ended her 2018 SeasonBy Adam KopetThe double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson ended her 2018 season early with an Achilles injury. According to Loop Sports, Thompson is back to training as she prepares for the 2019 outdoor season, but she continues to deal with the injury. Thompson won the 100 and 200 meters at the 2016 Olympics for Jamaica. She also earned a silver medal in the 200 at the 2015 IAAF World Outdoor Championships and a bronze medal in the 60 meters at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. The Monaco Diamond League meeting in July last year proved to be Thompson's final race of the season. She finished third, running 11.02. Thompson has struggled with injury since her double Olympic win in 2016. At the 2017 London Diamond League meeting, she wore special spikes that more resembled training flats than sprint spikes as she dealt with an injury. Thompson's current struggles with her injury still allow her to train, according to Loop Sports. The pain is gone, but she can still feel some soreness following heavy training sessions. However, with Achilles tendon injuries, anything can happen. Luckily for Thompson, this year's IAAF World Outdoor Championships begin at the end of September, giving her more time to heal and get fit than most championship years. More news |
