Desiree Linden to Race NYC Half Marathon in Advance of Boston Marathon Defense

By Adam Kopet

Desiree Linden will race the United Airlines NYC Half on March 17, according to race organizers. Linden is preparing to defend her 2018 Boston Marathon win.

However, in New York City, Linden will face the half marathon world record holder, Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya, who is preparing for her marathon debut in Hamburg in April, and the 2018 NYC Half winner Buze Diriba of Ethiopia. Jepkosgei has run 1:04:52 in addition to her world record time of 1:04:51.

Competing alongside Linden will be Allie Kieffer, Kellyn Taylor, Sarah Sellers and Emma Bates. Kieffer finished fifth at the 2017 New York City Marathon and Sellers finished second at last year's Boston Marathon. Taylor won Monday's Pacific Pursuit 10K and Bates won the 2018 USATF Marathon Championships in her debut.

Other notable international runners include Edna Kiplagat and Mary Wacera of Kenya, as well as Alice Wright of Great Britain. Kiplagat has won the New York City, Boston and London Marathons in her career. Wright is a training partner of Taylor as part of the HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite.

See the NYRR press release for the full list of elite entrants.
