Katelyn Tuohy Thinking About 2020 Olympic TrialsPublished by
Tuohy Committed To Running For North Rockland Through The Fall By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Nancy Haggerty of the Rockland/Westchester Journal News reported Wednesday that high school distance running phenom Katelyn Tuohy might leave her school team behind after her senior year of cross country and focus on the 2020 Olympic Trials. North Rockland coach Brian Diglio said: “She’s accomplished basically everything you’d want at the high school level. I think, at this point, if she wants to improve as a runner in terms of not only time but the strategy of racing, she needs a high level of competition she’s not getting from high school.” It's tough to argue with that line of reasoning. Mary Cain and Alexa Efraimson ran so far beyond their high school competition that they turned professional prior to graduating from high school. Neither of them has made an Olympic team. It remains to be seen whether Tuohy, who seems genuinely happy to be part of a team, will opt for college or listen to professional offers. Sticking it out through the 2019 cross country season indicates a desire to win a third national championship, something that would further bolster one of prep running's all-time great resumes.
