Briana Williams Named To Jamaican Team Pending Result Of HearingPublished by
Teen Sprint Star Still Must Answer To JADCO Before She Can Compete At Worlds By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor World U-20 double gold medalist Briana Williams got some encouraging news on Wednesday when Jamaican athletics officials named her to the 55-member team that will represent the country at the upcoming IAAF World Championships. However, because the 17-year-old was pinged for testing positive for a banned diuretic, Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), she must convince the Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission that the presence of the chemical in her A and B samples was accidental. The hearing is expected to happen between Sept. 23 and 25. Meanwhile, the Jamaica team training camp begins next week. Williams and her representatives claim that the positive test was a result of the HCTZ in a cold medication that she took, and declared, on her medical forms. HCTZ was not listed as an ingredient in the medication but an independent lab test on the product detected its presence. PREVIOUS STORY More news |
