All-Star relays added to NBNO schedule for 2020
By Steve Underwood
The NSAF has added an All-Star relay category to the 2020 New Balance Nationals Outdoor (for 2020 only). This allows athletes from different schools to compete on the same relay team in the designated events below, including representation of any USATF and/or AAU clubs with which they may be affiliated. This is something that is normally not permitted at NBN.
The relays to be contested are:
- 4x100m
- 4x400m
- 4x800m
- 800m Medley
- Swedish Medley
- 1600m Medley
These All-Star relays have been scheduled alongside their Championship division counterparts which take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the NBNO weekend. Each of them have their own sets of qualifying standards.
Please see the NBNO Standards page for the All-Star Boys and All-Star Girls qualifying standards.
Please see the NBNO Schedule page for the start times of these All-Star events on their respective days.
There are specific conditions for these relays:
- They are separate and apart from any Championship or Emerging Elite Relays
- Special custom All-Star relay batons will be awarded to the top six teams.
- They are not eligible for championship rings or All-American status, meaning no All-American certificates, All-American t-shirts or All-American crowns.
- The complementary souvenir (NBNO backpack) is at the Emerging Elite level
- Athletes on the All-Star relays can compete in any individual event as long as they meet all other eligibility requirements, but cannot represent a different team or club in those events. And those athletes cannot represent a different team or club in any other relay event.
We look forward to seeing you at NBNO July 16-19 and are glad to be able to provide this opportunity for 2020.
