Track And Field's Most Famous Sprinter Announces He Has Virus

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Jamaica's most famous resident, track and field icon Usain Bolt, revealed that he has tested positive for COVID-19 just a few days after his 34th birthday party.

Bolt announced on Monday via Twitter from his bed that he has not experienced any symptoms but is self-isolating to prevent further spread of the disease.

Bolt's birthday bash has come under scrutinty after video shows that little if any precaution was taken among party-goers to mitigate the transmission of the novel coronavirus.

Jamaica has been largely spared by the global pandemic, but Monday's confirmed number of new cases (116) was a new high for the island nation.

Bolt, the world record holder in the 100 meters and 200 meters, welcomed daughter Olympia Lightning Bolt in May.

Bolt retired in 2017. He remains one of the most recognizable athletes in the world and he is highest profile track and field athlete to confirm a positive COVID-19 test.
