CBA Boys Firm Up New Jersey's No. 1 Ranking At HolmdelPublished by
Colts Score 35 Points To Defeat Handful Of NJ's Top Teams By John Nepolitan of DyeStat In a highly anticipated showdown Wednesday involving the top three boys teams in New Jersey at Holmdel Park, host Christian Brothers Academy left no doubt it is the state's No. 1 by scoring 35 points to defeat No. 2 Ridge by 26 points. Seventh-ranked Colts Neck finished in third with 89 points, No. 8 Haddonfield finished fourth with 92 points, No. 12 South Brunswick took fifth with 102 points and No. 3 St Peter's rounded out the field with 120 points. CBA logged an impressive 16:34.31 scoring average (a performance that would have placed them in the top five of teams at last year's NJSIAA Meet of Champions). This was CBA's second race of the season and its first at Holmdel. Junior Lilly Shapiro of Colts Neck ran a personal best on the Holmdel Park course, 18:42.19 to win the girls race on Wednesday at the Colt Invite. That time would have been good enough for sixth at the 2019 New Jersey Meet of Champions, which won't take place this fall because of the Coronavirus pandemic. In the girls team race, New Jersey No. 2 Haddonfield backed up its Cougar Invite win with a 30-54-85 win over No. 8 Colts Neck and No. 3 Middletown South. Earlier in the season, Jackson Barna from Ridge was nipped at the line by Matt Bogdan of Colts Neck at the Cougar Invitational. On Wednesday the boys race wasn't close. Barna dipped under 16 minutes to secure the win in a Holmdel personal best of 15:50.51 for an eight-second win over Vidhur Polam of South Brunswick, who was second in 15:58.93. Bogdan was third.
