DyeStat Archives: Twenty Years Ago Today, Alan Webb Made Sub-Four History At The ArmoryPublished by
On Jan. 20, 2001, DyeStat Was There When Alan Webb Ran 3:59.86 In The Indoor Mile By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor DyeStat founder and namesake John Dye was a routine visitor to The Armory in the early days of the Website, but he may have missed the 2000 New Balance Games, if not for a tip. It was something of a secret that Alan Webb was going to try and run under four minutes in a field of older runners. He and his coach were reluctant to do that under the glare of hype and the weight of expectation. But race annoucer Ian Brooks advised Dye that he should be there. Something was going to happen that he wouldn't want to miss. A final email said "You MUST come." So Dye made the train trip from Baltimore, Md. and documented the night with early pixelated digital photos and coverage of the historic occasion. To this day, Dye calls is "the most memorable day of my life with DyeStat."
