In an interesting business development, OregonLive reported Tuesday on the acquisition of Picky Bars by the larger Laird Superfood in a deal worth $12 million.

Picky Bars was started by professional runners Lauren Fleshman, Jesse Thomas and Stephanie Bruce in 2010 and over the years has carved out a niche as premium workout fuel for athletes. The company makes energy bars made from all natural ingredients, granola and oatmeal.

Laird Superfood, which is owned by surfing legend Laird Hamilton, is also based in Central Oregon.

The acquistion means an infusion of resources for Picky Bars, which is expected to grow and flourish under the Laird Superfood umbrella.

“We are so excited to join forces with Laird Superfood,” Thomas said in a statement. “By integrating with the Laird Superfood team we will accelerate our company goals, bring additional employment and living wages to our community, increase our distribution, and provide us with better access to responsible ingredient sourcing.
