Bullis Girls Run US#1 3:40.88 4x400 On The Way To Third Overall; Ole Miss Men Win DMR; Sage Hurta Runs 1:59 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Continued good weather and celebratory vibes lifted athletes all day at Franklin Field as the Penn Relays enjoyed a full day of spectacular performances. The Brigham Young women won their first Penn Relays wheel by claiming the College Women's Distance Medley Relay in 10:50.22. Courtney Wayment split 4:32.39 on the anchor leg for the Cougars. In the men's DMR, Ole Miss took the victory in a school record time of 9:29.45. Mario Garcia Romo (3:58.36) outkicked Wisconsin's Olin Hacker to bring home the win. Gary Martin of Archbishop Wood PA won the boys mile in 4:01.04, coming oh-so-close to making history in front of a huge hometown crowd. Martin received his Penn Relays watch and then had to quickly leave the stadium in order to get ready for his prom Friday night. The Union Catholic NJ boys, with Shane Brosnan on anchor, won the high school DMR title with 10:14.42. Brosnan split 4:15.21. Larry Josh Edwards from University WV pulled away from the field over the final lap and won the boys 3,000 meters in 8:20.31. Cuthbertson NC took second in the Girls 4x800 Championship of America race in a US#3 time of 9:04.67. On Athletics pro Sage Hurta won the Olympic Development 800 meters in 1:59.76, good for third-best in the world this year. Juliette Whittaker of Mt de Sales MD finished behind Hurta and a ran a US#1 prep time of 2:01.55. In the men's Olympic Development 800, Kyle Langford from Great Britain edged Vince Crisp of the District TC, 1:46.11 to 1:46.32. In the men's 3,000 steeplechase, Isaac Updike of Nike ran the second-fastest time in the world and a Penn Relays record with 8:22.96. Olympian Mason Ferlic started the race and was leading halfway through, but did not finish. Ollie Hoare anchored the On Athletic Club to a victory in the men's 4xMile relay, which clocked 16:04.69.
Benjamin Shue (Bergen Catholic NJ) broke his own national freshman class record in the boys discus with a sixth-round throw that went 193 feet. That brought him from sixth to third overall.
Gregory Foster of Lawrenceville NJ popped a big jump to win the boys long jump with 24-11. That mark is US#3. More news |
